After leading 2-0 at half time, Brentwood had to settle for a draw in an entertaining local derby at Bridge Avenue on Tuesday.
Lamar Reynolds burst through the home defence in only the second minute and coolly finished to give the Blues an early lead.
That lead could have been short-lived but Abs Thompson’s rebounded of an upright in the fourth minute and George Purcell also hit a post with a header from Thompson’s cross in the eighteenth minute.
At the other end, Blues had a great chance on the break when Charlie Georgiou found Reynolds in front of goal but Urchins keeper Sam Mott came out and Reynolds could only hurriedly lift the ball over Mott but over the bar.
However, it was 2-0 in the 37th minute when Charlie Georgiou clinically finished after a delightful chipped pass from Matt Hall.
Hornchurch put the Blues defence under pressure at the start of the second half but the Urchins had Mott to thank for a good save from Charlie Georgiou in the 59th minute.
David Knight pulled a goal back in the 70th minute with an emphatic finish after more good work on the right by Thompson.
At 2-1, Brentwood had two good chances to clinch the points. In the 80th minute, Sam Owusu’s cross found Reynolds at the back post but his shot was superbly turned away by Mott. Then two minutes later, Mott was beaten by a Reynolds shot but the ball hit the post.
Hornchurch then earned a point in the 87th minute when substitute Ayrton Coley made a good run on the left and crossed for another sub, Ricky Freeman, to shoot through a crowded area into the net.
