Brentwood retrieved a two-goal half-time deficit to earn a deserved point at Thurrock FC on Tuesday. It was another entertaining end-to-end match with chances for both sides to win the match right up to the final whistle but in the end a draw was a fair result.
Brentwood were up against it from the eighth minute when Ryan Boswell’s cross from the right found Will Green who had time to pick his spot and put the home side ahead.
Chinedu McKenzie had a chance to increase the lead but he shot wide from a good position and it was McKenzie who made it 2-0 with Boro’s second goal in the 34th minute, showing some smart footwork and rounding Lewis Moore to score.
Brentwood did have some good attacks in the first half and threatened to score from free kicks, Joe Oseyemi heading wide and Lamar Reynolds forcing a good save from home keeper Callum Chafer.
Four minutes into the second half, Brentwood reduced the arrears when Marcus Milner crossed from the right and Reynolds (pictured) scored his first of the night.
McKenzie had a chance to restore Boro’s two-goal lead but Lewis Moore smothered the shot and Brentwood began creating a lot chances, Oseyemi heading over from a Shad Ngandu corner and Andy Freeman and Ngandu having good opportunities to score.
It was Freeman who set up the equaliser in the 63rd minute with a fine run down the left before setting up Reynolds to hit his second goal of the match and his eighth of the season for Brentwood.
Moore saved well again from Green but it was the visitors that went closest to grabbing a winner with Reynolds having three chances to complete a hat-trick. After an excellent Brentwood build-up, Reynolds shot straight at Chafer and the forward had two more opportunities in stoppage time. First, Ngandu found Milner whose fierce shot was blocked by Chafer and the ball ran just behind Reynolds who was unable to force it home. Then in the dying seconds, Reynolds shot just wide of the far post from the left of the goal.
