Overview
Despite another good performance from Brentwood Town, two goals in the first half hour proved enough for Aveley to secure the points at the Brentwood Arena.
The Millers led from the sixth minute through Tunde Adewunmi but the home side were in the game, putting their visitors under some pressure and Aveley were grateful for two fine saves by goalkeeper Lamar Joseph-Johnson.
But when Jeremiah Maja ran through and beat Joe Taylor for the second goal in the 29th minute, Brentwood’s task became more difficult. However, they were creating chances and Aveley’s
Gaz Dauti cleared in the six-yard box when Brentwood looked certain to score in the 35th minute and Blues were unlucky to see a shot from Matt Hall deflected onto the Aveley post two minutes later.
They got their reward in the 41st minute when Hall converted from the penalty spot after Aveley defender Harry Gibbs fouled Charlie Georgiou in the area.
Blues pressed hard for an equaliser in the second half but Dauti had a good chance for the visitors that he put over the bar, while Hall’s flying header following Marcus Milner’s run and cross went just over at the other end. Maja then went closest to a goal for Aveley when he hit a post from a tight angle nine minutes from time.
