Overview
Brentwood won their third successive match, and kept their third successive clean sheet, to record an impressive win at the home of second-placed Maldon.
For much of the game, Brentwood did not look like the team battling against relegation and they created more chances than their hosts with the best falling to Billy Rees after an excellent build up in the 19th minute, culminating in Reynolds cross to Rees, who failed to make a strong enough connection from 10 yards out.
The only goal came in the 34th minute when top-scorer Reynolds hit a fierce 20-yard shot that took a slight deflection on its way into the net, for the forward’s 23rd goal of the season. .
Brentwood defended well and restricted the home side to few clear chances in the second half. The away side had a good opportunity to increase their lead through Leon Gordon in the 73rd minute but the forward shot over the bar after getting clear of the Maldon defence.
Late in the second half when the Jammers were pressing for an equaliser, Anthony Page saved well from Tarryn Allarakhia, and Andy Greenslade cleared a Kieran Bailey shot off the line right at the end.
The win moved Brentwood up one place in the Ryman North table and they remain four points above the relegation zone.
