Overview
Brentwood earned a vital win in their relegation fight and denied Haringey the points they needed in their play-off quest.
After a cautious opening, the Blues took a 14th minute lead. Coby Rowe cleared off the Haringey line from Harrison Georgiou but Georgiou soon regained possession and crossed for Kieran English to score from close range.
Haringey, who started the match in sixth place in Ryman North, created some chances with Adrian Markus hitting the post, although he was in an offside position, and Chris Benjamin’s shot was blocked by Ryan O’Rawe.
Borough equalised in the 28th minute when Anthony Page failed to hold a free kick from Ben Adams and Adrian Markus slammed the ball into the roof of the net.
English had a chance for his second goal of the afternoon but shot wide. Page then came out quickly to save well from Markus in the 35th minute before Brentwood skipper O’Rawe restored his team’s lead right at the end of the first half. Following a corner, Matt Hall regained possession and hit a ball into Georgiou who hooked a cross which O’Rawe converted with a well-placed header.
Blues had to defend deep at times in the second half and could have with the cushion of a second goal, which finally arrived six minutes from time, when Andy Freeman clinched the points, capitalising on an error and rounding keeper Will Viner to score.
