Overview
Nine-man Witham took the three points at The Brentwood Centre on Saturday with an 80th minute winner from Damien Green. .
The visitors had been reduced to ten men five minutes before half time when full back Alex Anderson was red-carded after pulling back Andy Freeman as he went towards goal. After 83 minutes, with the score at 1-1, Witham’s other full back, Liam Whipps, was also sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Brentwood, who had already used their three substitutes, also finished a man short after James Pugsley was carried off injured.
Blues had a chance in the second minute of the first half, Andy Freeman setting up Kieran English who shot just wide of the post.
Witham’s pacey forwards caused problems at times for the home defence and Tim Monshedu was just off target with a powerful long-range shot, while Brentwood’s leading scorer Matt Price was denied by a save from Witham keeper Lewis Moore in the 26th minute.
Brentwood had to replace the injured English with Nick Hilder before half time.
Despite being a man down, Witham took a 57th minute lead when Whipps hit a speculative 30-yard shot that surprised home keeper Anthony Page and found the top corner.
Blues sub Izzy Bademosi headed his team level from Hilder’s cross in the 67th minute, Bademosi’s first goal for the club, but Witham remained dangerous on the break and they regained the lead through Green’s goal.
In a frantic finish, Price had a fierce shot blocked, but Blues could not find an equaliser.
