Overview
Blues went in to the match having scored ten goals in their last two matches, all against South Park in the FA Trophy, including Tuesday’s 7-2 win in the replay. But after trailing to a first half own goal against Cheshunt, they needed an 88th minute equaliser by substitute Brad Hunter to earn a deserved point.
Ambers’ Adam Wallace headed over the Blues crossbar in the second minute but the home side soon began to threaten the visitors’ goal. Andy Freeman set up Alfie Hilton, whose controlled shot was straight at keeper Montel Joseph, and Izzy Bademosi also had two shots on target.
Brentwood went closest to opening the scoring in the 27th minute following Freeman’s fine run and cross that found the head of Hilton, but Joseph saved well, turning the effort over the bar.
Cheshunt’s Tom Bruno just failed to connect with a diving header from a cross by former Brentwood forward Emmanuel Osei but Cheshunt led from the 33rd minute following confusion in the Brentwood defence that saw Brenden Cavalier chest the ball into his own net.
Blues worked hard to find an equaliser in the second half with centre back Harry Gibbs going close on three occasions.
Just when it looked as though Cheshunt would hold out for the three points, Freeman found Matt Price in the box and his low cross was deftly turned in by Hunter.
