Overview
Brentwood ended the league leaders 100% start to the season with a hard-earned draw at the Brentwood Arena. Basildon had won their opening seven matches in their first season back in the Isthmian League but had to settle for a point despite some late pressure on the home goal where Blues goalkeeper Rob Budd made some excellent saves.
For Blues, it was their fourth draw in seven league matches so far this season and their sixth draw in all competitions. They are in fourteenth place in Bostik North with seven point from seven matches having conceded just seven goals in those games but scoring only six times. So, defensively, Brentwood look sound and they should climb the table if they can improve their goal scoring.
Brentwood took an eighth minute lead on Tuesday, a fine Alfie Hilton setting up Luke Foster to score his second goal of the season. The lead lasted until the 26th minute when Tom Barton scored from a corner. Two minutes later, Foster was unlucky not to add to his goal tally when his free kick hit the foot of a post.
Towards the end of the second half, Brentwood were hanging on at 1-1 and Budd saved three times to keep Basildon out. And the visitors nearly snatched a win right at the end of stoppage time when Brian Moses’ header glanced the outside of a post.
