Match Preview: Brentwood Town vs Chatham Town

It’s an another massive game at the top of the table this weekend with Brentwood hosting Chatham at the Arena – a must-win game for both teams.

The Chats leapfrogged the Blues last weekend, so Keith Rowland’s side will be keen to win this one and move back into third spot in the table.

The Blues

Brentwood were defeated by the league leaders Folkestone Invicta last time out – a 2-0 defeat on home turf that saw the visitors move within touching distance of the league title.

Sam German opened the scoring immediately for Invicta, to put the Blues 1-0 down in the opening minute, and Kevin Lokko adding a second in the 15th minute. Brentwood fought valiantly, but were unable to find the net, with Folkestone successfully protecting their lead.

It sees the Blues now only maintain a six point gap to sixth placed Dartford, who are outside the play-off spots, so a win here is vital to ensure Brentwood can remain in those all-important spots.

The Chats

Chatham sit just two points above the Blues after they beat Burgess Hill Town 3-0 in their last match, away from home.

Junior Dixon and Sam Sene-Richardson scored in the first half, with Dixon adding his second just three minutes after the break. The Chats were able to keep Burgess Hill out, to give them a comfortable win.

One to watch is Sam Sene-Richardson who scored in the last match, and has ten goals this season. Two of these goals are in the last five matches, so he appears to be finding form as we head into the final stages of the season.

The Chats are only two points behind Aveley, and now have an eight point gap to the teams outside the playoff spots, so they will be desperate to win here, to move that one step closer to securing a top five finish.

Final Word

It doesn’t get much bigger than this, an absolutely huge match for both teams. A game with the potential to decide either team’s season, that neither can afford to lose. The Blues will be desperate to reclaim third, with Chatham wanting to extend their grasp on their position.
