Brentwood Town bowed out of the Essex Senior Cup Fourth Round last night against Essex outfit Maldon & Tiptree.
Five changes were made to the team that featured in the FA Trophy at the weekend, with a first return for Manny Ogunrinde since his injury in mid-october and a debut for young midfielder George Holley.
Brentwood started the game well, but it was the Jammers who took the lead through Macauley Bonne inside the 15th minute as the striker headed home from a corner at the back post.
The Blues looked to respond when a floated pass into the box by Holley was met by Matt Cripps, before his effort at goal was deflected and cleared by the backline.
Courtney Senior then doubled the visitors lead with an effort from distance that nestled into the top left corner of goal.
Before the break The Blues produced a flurry of chances. Ade Cole flicked a pass to Benas Vaivada down the left flank, who fired a low-shot on the edge of the box, that Tommy Dixon-Hodge was able to deny.
After the restart, and both sides having made changes, Terrell Egbri slotted home at the bottom corner of the far post to find a third for the visitors.
However, the Blues endeavoured on the attack as Vaiavda picked out Holley on the edge of the area who’s strike forced the gloves of Dixon-Hodge.
With less than 20 minutes remaining, Brentwood thought they had clawed one back as Holley delivered a through ball to Ogunrinde who was able to convert from close range, before the officials ruled it out for offside.
Brentwood return to Isthmian Premier action this coming Saturday where a trip to Chichester City awaits. Tickets are available to purchase online via the Fanbase app.
