Match Preview: Brentwood Town vs Folkestone Invicta

It’s a huge game at The Arena this Saturday as the Blues host league leaders Folkestone Invicta, with everything to fight for at the top of the table.

Invicta got the better of Brentwood earlier this season, so on home turf, Keith Rowland’s side will be desperate to take the three points.

The Blues

Brentwood Town have been in good form in recent weeks, who now sit just one point behind second place Aveley, and have a nine point gap to Dartford just outside the play-off spots. In their last match they managed a 3-2 win thanks to an added time winner.

Last Saturday Brentwood travelled to Parkside to play Hashtag United. The hosts took the lead through Luke May-Parrott, and Danny Ogunleye got the Blues level 10 minutes before half-time on his return from injury.

Charlie Edwards scored straight after the half time break to put Brentwood ahead, only for ex-Blue Sam Park to restore clarity with a fantastic half-volley to level the game with fifteen minutes left, before late drama at the end with Ethan Kaiser findingg the winner in the 91st minute.

There are only seven games left now, and the Blues know a play-off finish is in their hands, with the possibility of back-to-back promotions, having won the Isthmian North Division title last season. Brentwood will look to use their dangerous players here to put themselves one step closer to a playoff finish.

Invicta

It’s been a brilliant season for Folkestone who are a massive thirteen points clear at the top of the table. With this lead, they can win the league in their next three matches should results go their way, despite their draw last time out to Dartford.

The Darts held Invicta to a 2-2 draw, with Callum Jones firing Dartford in front after 21 minutes, but just eight minutes later Nathan Paul-Lavaly equalised. Jones got his second for Dartford, however, Joe Pigott found the leveller in the 55th minute, with neither team able to find a winner.

One to watch is striker Jake Hutchinson who has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season. He’s scored eighteen league goals this season, second to Ogunleye, the league’s top scorer, with 19 for the season, so Hutchinson will be keen to find the net here to close that gap.

Final Word

It doesn’t get bigger than this. It’s a huge game for both sides, Invicta trying to get one step closer to the title, and Brentwood trying to ensure they can secure that play-off spot. It should be an incredibly entertaining game, with both sides putting everything on the line to try and get the three points.
