The Blues are back on the road this weekend, heading to Kent to take on Ramsgate.
Sitting third in the table, it’s been a good couple of weeks for Brentwood who will be hoping for another three points here to continue their playoff charge.
The Blues
Brentwood came from behind to win their last match, at the Arena, 3-1 against Cray Valley (PM) to make it back to back wins for the first time since December.
Kenny Aileru opened the scoring for the visitors in the 22nd minute, but the league’s top scorer Danny Ogunleye had the game level before half-time. Kymani Thomas and Louie Johnson both scored in the second half to clinch the three points, giving Brentwood something to build on.
Keith Rowland’s side currently occupy third place in the Isthmian Premier table with a 6 point gap on 4th placed Chatham Town, however, the Chats, whom the Blues beat just two games ago, have three games in hand. A win here is vital for Town to keep their position, as the play-off race below them continues to heat up.
The Rams
Ramsgate, who were also promoted from step 4 last season as Isthmian League South East Division Champions, have had a good season and find themselves 9th in the table, 7 points below the play-off spots.
They rescued a late draw against Cray Wanderers last time out, who also sit in the playoff race. Alex Hernandez put the hosts up in the 77th minute, only for Alfie Paxman to equalise for the Rams in the 96th minute, to keep them within reach of the top 5.
One to watch is the man who scored in Ramsgate’s last match, Paxman, who has eleven goals so far this campaign. He trails the Blues talisman Ogunleye by 5 goals as the league’s top scorer, and will look to close that gap in this match.
Final Word
This game should be a fierce contest between two sides promoted into Step 3 this season, who have everything to fight for at the top end of the table. With many clinical scorers on both sides, it should be an entertaining encounter.
