Brentwood Town rounded off their 2025 home campaign with a 1-0 victory over Potters Bar Town.
Alejandro Machado’s 59th minute goal was the difference between the two sides, on a day where 3 points were essential with all other sides around the Blues winning their respective games.
An early chance fell to the Blues as Louie Johnson squared a pass to Montel Agyemang on the edge of the box, but the midfielder struck an effort over the bar.
Moments later, Machado dispossessed Joe Re down the left flank and swung a cross goalwards with Johnson’s strike fired over.
The visitors created some attacking chances of their own in the first-half, but were unable to test Melvin Minter in goal, as a flurry of chances then fell to Brentwood before the first 45′.
Kymani Thomas flicked a through ball into the path of Johnson, and the curling strike from Jesse Olukolu was met by the stretched save of Josh Shattell. Thomas also came close with his floating effort marginally over onto the roof of the net, before a central strike from Machado was tipped around the post by the fingertips of Shattell.
Brentwood started the second-half strongly, and just before the hour mark, Machado broke the deadlock as he calmly placed a shot past Shattell from the squared delivery of Olukolu.
With the Blues now looking to kill the game off, Keith Rowland made two changes, with Benas Vaivada & Charlee Hughes being introduced. Hughes was involved almost instantly when he dinked an effort from a driving run, only to watch it fall inches wide of the post.
The Blues continued to push, with a long-range strike by Machado denied by the gloves of Shattell, before Hughes flicked a pass into the path of Benas Vaivada and his low-range range effort rolling narrowly wide of the left post.
The Scholars had their moments as the second-half drew to a close, and in the added minutes, a central strike by substitute Declan Phillips in a crowded area was saved by the legs of Minter.
