The Blues are back on the road following three consecutive home games, in which they remained unbeaten, with two wins and a draw. It’s been a much more difficult start for their hosts who sit in the relegation zone heading into this encounter.
The Blues
It was a successful build up to Christmas for Brentwood Town, who beat bottom of the league Potters Bar Town in the last match to keep themselves above the teams fighting for their league position.
It was a 1-0 win, and despite many great chances either way, Alejandro Machado bagged the only goal of the match. It was his 5th goal in Brentwood colours, and he’s been a superb signing since joining from Aveley earlier this season.
The result leaves the Blues second in the table, a clear three points ahead of Chatham Town in third, however, they do have two games in hand. Brentwood have an eleven point gap to 6th place Cray Wanderers and will look to maintain that in this game to help secure playoffs.
The Wings
Welling United sit 20th in the table, 9 points from Carshalton Athletic in 18th, where they will hope to finish to secure their place in the Isthmian Premier next season.
Their last match was a difficult 1-0 loss away at Lewes, who scored the only and winning goal in the 102nd minute through Kaan Bennett. Late heartbreak for the Wings, also having had Jack Paxman see red in the 92nd minute.
One to watch is joint top scorer John Ufuah who’s netted 4 goals already this season. The goals have been shared around the team so far, and all the Welling attacking players have contributed to their survival efforts.
Final Word
This match should be an entertaining one with two teams that have everything to fight for at either end of the table. Welling will look to make it difficult for the Blues, especially in front of their home crowd.
