Welcome to Brentwood Town, Luke Read

Brentwood Town are delighted to announce the arrival of defender Luke Read, who joins the Blues from Carshalton Athletic ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The 30-year-old arrives at the Brentwood Centre Arena following an outstanding spell with The Robins, where he established himself as one of the most dependable defenders in the division across two spells with the club.

Read first joined Carshalton in 2018 and, aside from a short stint with Merstham in 2022, spent the majority of the last seven years at the War Memorial Sports Ground. In total, he made an impressive 236 appearances in red and white.

A commanding 6ft1 centre-back, Read is also capable of operating at right-back or in defensive midfield, bringing versatility and experience to the Blues squad. He featured 37 times last season, scoring six goals, after making 47 appearances with four goals in 2024/25 and 41 appearances with eight goals during the 2023/24 campaign.

Remarkably, across his last 125 appearances, Read collected just seven yellow cards, highlighting both his discipline and composure at the heart of the defence.

Before joining Carshalton Athletic in 2018, Read also spent time in the United States playing college football with the Northern Illinois Huskies.

His performances earned widespread recognition at Carshalton, where he was voted Players’ Player of the Season in 2023/24, Manager’s Player of the Season in 2024/25, and finally Supporters’ Player of the Season for 2025/26. Former Robins manager Peter Adeniyi paid tribute to Read’s consistency earlier this year, saying:

“Luke is the very definition of consistency. Every team needs those players you can rely on week in, week out, and for us, Luke is one of them. In the five seasons we’ve had together, I can genuinely count on one hand the number of below-par performances he’s had. That level of consistency is rare.”

Upon joining Brentwood Town, Luke said:

“I’m really excited about joining Brentwood Town. The club has had a great couple of years and it’s on a journey I want to be a part of. I’m looking forward to meeting all you Blues soon!”

Everyone at Brentwood Town would like to welcome Luke to the club and wish him every success in a Blues shirt.
