BRENTWOOD TOWN 4 – 1 SOHAM TOWN RANGERS 1

Brentwood ended a run of three successive league draws with this comfortable win over bottom-of-the-table Soham. However, the visitors had enough chances to make the final score much closer than it was.

Blues new signing, Charlee Hughes, made a good early impression with a cross from the right wing that was met by Kojo Apenteng whose shot was blocked by Soham defender Rob Mason. But it was the visitors who seemed to adapt better to the wet, slippery conditions and they had the better of the early chances.

Ally Conway had a goal disallowed for offside in the sixth minute and Rob Budd was the busier goalkeeper with Sam Mulready heading Rangers best chance so far straight into the arms of Budd in the 27th minute.

Almost immediately, Brentwood took the lead at the other end. Kojo Apenteng cut in from the left and was unlucky to see his fine effort hit the crossbar. The quality of that shot was matched by Albert Levett who was on hand to control the ball and hit a fierce drive into the roof of the net.

Connor Martin scrambled in the second goal just four minutes later, after the visitor’s defence could not clear a Luke Foster free kick.

Brentwood were in control until Mulready reduced the arrears just before half time.

Apenteng’s shot from outside the area restored the two-goal advantage ten minutes after the restart and Alfie Hilton made it 4-1 in the 83rd minute.

The win moved Brentwood up to eleventh place in the Bostik North Division.
