BRENTWOOD TOWN 5 – 3 WITHAM TOWN

An eight-goal thriller saw Brentwood recover from a 3-1 deficit 33 minutes into the first half.

Abdul Rasheed put Witham ahead with just 60 seconds gone, finding the bottom corner from close range, and Ramiah Mills twice threatened to increase the lead before Andy Freeman equalised in the 28th minute, his shot deflected in after Tom Richardson’s header from an Anthony Furlonge cross had been blocked by visiting goalkeeper Rhys Madden.

But Rasheed restored the visitors lead seconds later and he then completed a remarkable first half hat-trick in the 33rd minute, heading in from a Liam Whipps corner kick.

Charlie Kendall headed home Chris Gregan’s long throw a minute before half time to reduce the arrears and the home team mostly dominated the second half. Correy Davidson hit the crossbar in the 52nd minute, and Madden denied Richardson again, from Freeman’s pass.

It was 3-3 through George Craddock’s expertly controlled volley in the 64th minute. Freeman put Blues ahead for the first time in 77th minute, a header from Davidson’s right wing corner, and Marlon Agyakwa produced a fine finish for the fifth goal in the 83rd minute, cutting in from the right wing and finding the far corner.

Blues keeper Louis Chadwick twice saved shots from Witham forward Adam Vyse right at the end of the second half as the visitors looked to try and salvage something from the match.

The result puts Brentwood Town up to fifth in Isthmian North.
