Late goal sees Blues through in FA Cup

Saturday 19th August
FA CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND
BRENTWOOD TOWN 2 - 1 KINGS LANGLEY

A closely fought contest at the Brentwood Arena was settled by Sam Deering’s clever 90th minute chip shot that found the top corner.

Both sides created chances in the first half with home keeper Melvin Minter making a good save after three minutes from Michael Gabblah’s long-range drive. Daniel Ogunleye was a constant threat on the left for Brentwood and his run created a good opportunity for Matt Price who shot just wide in the twelfth minute but almost immediately Minter was busy again saving from Lorenzo Johnson.

Jack Adlington put Blues ahead in the 26th minute with a cool finish after he got behind the visiting defence. Chances continued to come before half time with Minter keeping out a Louie Collier effort with his feet, Billy Roast hitting the visitors post with a header from Harrison Chatting’s free kick, and Prices was denied by keeper Juliusz Pazo in first half stoppage time.

There were less chances in the second half. Kings were denied again by Minter when he saved from Rayan Clark in the 83rd minute, but they were rewarded for some late pressure when Rene Howe equalised two minutes later.

It looked as though the tie would go to a Tuesday replay before Deering’s late winner. That was not final action though as there were nearly ten minutes of added time at the end of the second half but Blues survived with few late scares to earn a place in the 1st Qualifying round draw.
