BRENTWOOD TOWN 2 – 1 SOHAM TOWN RANGERS

Two second half goals by Sewa Marah earned Brentwood a welcome win to end a run of three successive league defeats.

Marah had a chance in just the second minute, making a run deep into the penalty area only to be denied by visiting keeper Josh Pope, but Soham looked the stronger team for some of the first half and went closest to scoring through Ryan Auger.

However, Blues had probably had the best chances with Marah having a shot blocked on the line by defender Cameron Watson just before half time after Temi Babalola had got behind the Soham defence.

The introduction of Jacob Wiggins at the start of the second half saw a much-improved Brentwood and they were denied an opening goal by the underside of the crossbar just four minutes after the restart.

Marah volleyed home Anthony Furlonge’s cross to give Brentwood the lead in the 67th minute and Marah went close to a second goal when he was put through by another substitute Tom Anderson but under pressure, he shot too high as Pope came off his line.

Brentwood looked comfortable when Marah scrambled in a second goal in the 81st minute following a good move down the left, but Soham staged a late rally and Auger reduced the arrears four minutes from time and home keeper Tim Brown saved from Sam Mulready’s header in stoppage time to keep the lead intact.

Brentwood Town: Brown, Milner, Pugsley, Freeman, Kemsley, Edwards, Furlonge, Hogan (Anderson 74), Babalola (Wiggins 46), Marah, Batlokwa (Campbell 77).
