FA Cup Second Qualifying Round
Saturday | Garden Walk | 3:00 PM Kick-Off
Brentwood Town are back in FA Cup action this weekend as they travel to Royston Town of the Southern Premier Central. This weekend's hosts are still searching for their first league win of the season, but their hard-fought victory in the previous round may have given them a boost heading into this tie.
The Blues
Brentwood reached this stage with a determined performance against Step 4 side Leighton Town at The Arena.
The visitors took the lead after 22 minutes through Jack Sayell, but Brentwood responded before half-time when Charlee Hughes converted from the penalty spot.
The winner came late on, substitute Kymani Thomas holding his nerve to score a second penalty in the 87th minute after Jesse Olukolu was fouled.
That victory ensured Brentwood’s unbeaten run continued and should provide confidence ahead of this meeting with another Step 3 opponent.
The Crows
Royston Town, nicknamed the Crows, play in the Southern League Premier Central. Despite four defeats & three draws from their opening league fixtures, they overcame Redbridge 2-1 away from home in the previous round of the FA Cup.
Kian Harness opened the scoring in the fourth minute before James Brighton struck the decisive goal early in the second half to send Royston through.
Forward Kian Harness will be one to watch again, having already scored three times this season in all competitions.
Final Word
This promises to be a competitive tie between two Step 3 sides in separate leagues.
Brentwood will look to keep their unbeaten start going and book a place in the next round, while Royston will aim to claim their second win of the campaign and build momentum for the weeks ahead.
