Match Report: Brentwood Town vs Canvey Island

Club News | 10 Sep 2025

Brentwood Town made it back-to-back victories at The Arena with a thrilling 1-0 win over Canvey Island. A last minute effort in the 98th minute from Romél Aarons-Royal secured all three points for The Blues and continued to maintain their unbeaten run in the league.

Brentwood had an early chance inside five minutes with Danny Ogunleye retrieving a pass down the left flank before his low-range shot crept past the far post.

Matas Skarna momentarily found the net to put the visitors ahead but his effort was disallowed for a foul on Melvin Minter.

From that moment a flurry of chances fell to Brentwood. The closest moment of the half came through the whipped delivery of Max Hudson which was met inside the area by Louie Johnson, with his strike edging narrowly wide of the left post.

With both sides level at the break, The Blues continued to push on with Johnson flicking a pass back to Hudson down the right hand side before his cross floated into the palms of Lewis Greene.

A spell of chances followed with Wyan Reid belting past the defence but knocking his strike wide of the crossbar and an attempt by captain Matt Cripps on the edge of the box forcing a low save by Greene to deny.

The Blues found a way to break the deadlock in the last minute of the match. An in-swinging corner kick from the left encountered a goal wards scramble in the area but Aarons-Royal was on hand to bundle the ball home.

Brentwood are back in FA Cup action this weekend as they travel to take on Royston Town in the Second Qualifying Round. The Blues then return to league fixtures on Saturday 20th September as they are back at The Arena for an all Essex encounter against Billericay Town. Tickets are available to purchase via FanBase.
