Club News | 6 Sep 2025

Brentwood Town remain unbeaten at the top having come from behind on two occasions to secure a victory over Carshalton Athletic.

The Robins were quick to break with Abdullateef Salami capitalising from a loose ball and advancing goal wards, before he was dispossessed by Romél Aarons Royal.

A low range attempt from Louie Johnson at the edge of the area came close to putting the Blues ahead with the shot forcing a diving save from Matt Kerbey.

Salami was then picked out at the other end of the field, but his half-volley effort was knocked wide of the near post.

The Robins continued on attack when the ball was whipped into the by Sharon Ifeanyi but encountered a headed clearance from Blues’ captain Matt Cripps.

Danny Ogunleye momentarily advanced Brentwood as he nestled his strike into the bottom corner before the linesman waved for offside.

Ifeanyi opened the scoring for the visitors with his curling effort finding the far corner.

Ogunleye swiftly equalised The Blues one minute on when he headed in a delivery, whipped into the box by Max Hudson.

Just before half time, Salami regained the lead for the visitors as he tucked in his shot at the near post.

The Blues commenced the second half raring in attack, with a volleyed attempt from Benas Vaivada struck above the crossbar before an effort from Charlee Hughes reaching the palms of Kereby.

Charlie Edwards looked to level The Blues as he converted a cross swung into the box by Ade Cole before the linesman flagged for a foul.

But an equaliser was imminent and was sealed moments on by a sublime strike from Louie Johnson. The midfielder juggled the ball on the edge of the area and rifled his effort into the far top corner to level the scoring, whilst net his fourth of the season.

In the final 15 minutes, Hughes found the net to put Brentwood ahead as he got on the end of a cross across goal by Wyan Reid and slotted home.

Speaking at full time assistant manager Steve Butterworth said: “We don't do wins normally here at Brentwood, do we? Every game now so far, we've come from behind. It shows great character from the boys.

“Obviously, you make changes throughout the game and sometimes you take risks. You change shapes and stuff like that. Everything we've done so far has worked.

It won't always be like that but it's the reaction from people and our reaction every time (to going behind) which is superb.

Every game has been tough so far. We've had a rub of the green today. But hopefully, we’ll get it on Tuesday with the game against Canvey”.

The Blues return to league action this Tuesday as we welcome Canvey Island to The Arena in an all Essex encounter. Tickets are available to purchase via FanBase or on the turnstiles.
