BRENTWOOD TOWN 1- 3 CANVEY ISLAND

Brentwood finished the season with defeat in an entertaining match against Essex rivals Canvey Island.

Both sides had chances in the first half. Sam Collins had a shot deflected wide of Blues’ goal in the eighth minute and at the other end Charlee Hughes’ effort was also diverted behind for a corner.

Marlon Agtakwa forced a save from home keeper Rob Budd in the 32nd minute and Hughes hit the Canvey crossbar with a header from Mitch Hunter’s corner.

Ade Cole put Canvey ahead on the stroke of half time, but Blues started the second half strongly with Tony Stokes heading straight at keeper Harry Palmer from a few yards out in the 47th minute after John Easterford had headed on a long throw from Ryan Mallett.

Two minutes later Hughes equalised with his 20th goal of the season and Brentwood were nearly ahead when an Alfie Hilton header from close in was too close to Palmer.

Substitutions lifted Canvey and Frankie Merrifield put them back in front on 68 minutes. Both keepers were kept busy with Palmer making a fine save from Easterford’s header before sub Ryan Melaugh’s 80th minute goal clinched the points for Canvey.

Brentwood Town: Budd, Fox (Nche 52), Hunter, Mallett, Martin, Easterford (Forbes 76), Hilton (Hurford 82), Levett, Hughes, Apenteng, Stokes.
