Match Preview: Folkestone Invicta vs Brentwood Town

It is a gigantic clash at the top of the Isthmian Premier table, as first take on second, in a game that means everything for both sides. It’s advantage Invicta heading into the match, but the Blues will look to close the gap with a win away at Alcaline Stadium.

The Blues

Brentwood played out a 3-3 draw with local neighbours Aveley last Friday night, the second meeting between the two teams this season, the first of which also ended in a draw.

Suley Zuhdu, the Millers’ top scorer, gave the visitors the lead in the 6th minute, but Danny Ogunleye was on hand with the equaliser just 5 minutes after. He then headed the hosts in front in the 35th minute with his 15th goal in all competitions.

Aveley equalised in the 58th minute through Harry Critchley, Alejando Machado put the Blues back in front against his former side. Zuhdu scored his second goal of the match late on to rescue a point for the visitors.

It was a tricky game against one of the most in form sides in the Isthmian Premier division, but this weekend will likely be an even tougher test against a side unbeaten at home, and who have only lost one league match all season.

Invicta

It’s been an incredible start to the season for Folkestone who sit top of the table, 6 points ahead and with a game in hand over the Blues in second. It was a 3-0 win in their last match at home against Chichester City with three second half goals.

Jake Hutchinson scored the first in the 62nd minute, and from there confidence grew, with Joe Pigott scoring a second in the 80th. Ronnie Dolan put the issue beyond doubt in added time to seal all three points.

One to watch is Jake Hutchinson who has scored an impressive 12 goals already this season, as well as Joe Pigott who has managed the same amount. They’ve both been a big part as to why Invicta sit top of the table, and are sure to be a challenge for the Blues defence in this top of the table clash.

Final Word

It doesn’t get any bigger than this. A must win match for both teams as they look to fight for the Isthmian Premier title. It’s been a season that has defied expectations for Brentwood already, but they will look to go one step further against Invicta.
