Match Preview: Brentwood Town vs Hornchurch

After three consecutive games on the road, the Blues are back at the Arena, and take a break from league action in the FA Trophy. It certainly won’t be an easy game, facing a strong Hornchurch side that sit top of the National League South.

The Blues

Brentwood returned to winning ways on Tuesday night, completing their first double of the season, with a 3-2 win away at St Albans City.

Danny Ogunleye opened the scoring in just the 13th minute, but Zane Banton replied from the spot 4 minutes later for the hosts. Benas Vaivada put the Blues back ahead with an outrageous volley 10 minutes after, but once again the hosts levelled quickly, Kieran Gauthier with the next goal.

Brentwood won the game thanks to substitute Sam Park, whose 71st minute strike was the difference between the two teams. The result will give Town some confidence heading into this match, having lost the previous three.

The Urchins

Hornchurch have been flying this season so far, and until Monday were unbeaten in the league after 16 games.

It was a 2-0 win for the Clarets, with both goals coming in the first 20 minutes of the match, Jason Adigun and Lyle Taylor the scorers. This result however, still leaves the Urchins six points clear of second place, a fantastic start to their campaign.

One to watch is Angelo Balanta who is a large reason Hornchurch are doing so well, with 7 goals for him so far this season. Henry Hearn also has scored 7, and will be looking to add to his tally.

Final Word

Whilst the Urchins sit a league higher than Brentwood, Keith Rowland’s side will remain determined, having beaten Step Two opposition in this round of this competition just last season, in a memorable win away at Hereford. Hornchurch however, will be the toughest test of the season yet for the Blues.
