Brentwood Town are back at the Arena this evening for an Essex derby under the lights against Aveley.
The Blues sit 2nd in the league, with the Milers breathing down their neck in 5th, so this is set to be an entertaining clash between two in-form sides.
The Blues
Brentwood have now won their last two league games in a row, both away from home at St Albans City and more recently Chichester City. With key players returning from injury, the Blues are looking to put their previous difficult run of form behind them.
Town went behind twice in their match against Chichester, but goals from Wyan Reid, Charlee Hughes, Jesse Olukolu and a brace from Danny Ogunleye sealed the three points in a 5-2 win. It wasn’t until the 88th minute that Ogunleye found the winner, but once again the Blues showed their fighting spirit to get over the line.
It’s now eleven league goals for Ogunleye who has carried over his form from last season, where he bagged 43 in the Isthmian North Division title win. He will be a challenge for the Aveley defence to keep quiet, as joint top scorer in the league.
The Millers
Aveley had a difficult start to the season, but in the last couple of months they have really turned a corner, and sit second in the form table having won 4 of the last 5. Last time out they beat Wingate & Finchley, who were top of the form table beforehand.
It was a 2-0 win for the Millers, the scorers Ryan Charles and Jayden Robinson. It was the 4th goal of the season for both Charles and Robinson, and both have been very important for their recent form.
Whilst they have both been key, the most important player for Aveley so far is Ollie Peters, who has 8 goals already. Suley Zuhdu also has 8 for the season, but Peters has contributed 4 assists in all competitions alongside his goals, and will be the one to watch as the Millers look for a positive result.
Final Word
This promises to be an exciting clash at the Arena, and it gives the Blues the chance to go just 1 point off top spot, albeit a game ahead of Folkestone. Aveley are looking to bridge the gap to Brentwood, but Keith Rowland’s side will be keen to get the three points and push further ahead.
