FA CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND
BRENTWOD TOWN 1 – 0 LEIGHTON TOWN

Daniel Ogunleye’s first senior goal for Brentwood secured an FA Cup win over Spartan South Midlands club Leighton Town.

The home side had the better chances in the first half with Rob Harvey getting behind the visitors defence and shooting over the bar in the 22nd minute. Four minutes later Ogunleye’s header grazed the crossbar from George Craddock’s corner before Ogunleye put Blues in front in the 35th minute. He got clear of the defence, held off a challenge and beat Ollie Leslie in the visitors goal with a cool finish inside the post.

Home skipper Tom Richardson nearly made it 2-0 in the 39th minute but Leslie was able to block his close range effort.

Leighton threatened to get back in the game early in the second half with efforts on goal from Danny Webb and Tom Silford.

On the hour, Ogunleye went close to a second for Blues, heading over from a corner and then Andy Freeman volleyed over the Leighton bar following a Connor Hogan corner. Harvey's surging run down the right wing in the 77th created more problems for the visitors defence but again Brentwood could not capitalise, James Love shooting over the goal from a good position.

The Brentwood defence looked sound for the most part with centre back Joe Heath, back from a short injury break, coming off the bench in the later stages.

But Leighton had a great chance to force a replay in the 90th minute when Webb got behind the home defence but shot well wide.

Brentwood now await Monday's draw for the 1st Qualifying round of the Cup.

Brentwood Town: Bowles, Harvey, Gould, Gray, Cripps, Love, Hogan, Craddock, Richardson (Heath 73), Ogunleye, Dickinson (Freeman 62)
