Brentwood Town return to action in the Isthmian Premier Division this weekend as they welcome fellow new boys Burgess Hill Town to the Arena. Both sides remain unbeaten after three games, each with two wins and a draw, setting up what promises to be a lively contest.
The Blues
Keith Rowland’s side head into the fixture full of confidence after back-to-back wins. Last time out, Brentwood showed real resilience in a 7-goal thriller away at Potters Bar.
The hosts stormed into a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes through Reiss Webber (pen) and Brandon Adams, but Brentwood hit back before half time – Louie Johnson pulling one back in the 31st minute before Charlee Hughes levelled on the stroke of half time.
Straight after the restart, last season’s golden boy Daniel Ogunleye struck to put the Blues in front, but Potters Bar equalised again through Ryan Doherty. With the game finely balanced, Ogunleye stepped up once more from the spot in the 75th minute to secure Brentwood’s first away win of the season.
That result made it two wins on the bounce following the home victory over St Albans, and stretched the Blues’ unbeaten return to Step 3 to three matches.
The Hillians
Burgess Hill arrive at the Arena with confidence of their own, also unbeaten in their opening three fixtures. Promoted via the Isthmian South East play-offs last season, the Hillians edged Sittingbourne on penalties in the final to secure their place in the Premier Division.
They’ve strengthened well this summer, bringing in the likes of:
- Henry Curtis (ex-Hendon, loan)
- George Vorster (loan from Sutton United – 2 goals already this season)
- Damien Theodore (loan from Gillingham)
- Roco Rees (GK, ex-Sittingbourne)
- Jaden Perez (midfielder with Step 2/3 pedigree)
Experience also comes in the form of Chris Whelpdale, who has already bagged two goals in three games.
Final Word
Both sides come into the match unbeaten and full of confidence, but Brentwood will look to make home advantage count and extend their winning run. Another big test awaits, but the Blues have already shown they have the resilience and quality to compete strongly at Step 3.
