Match report from Basildon

General | 31 Oct 2022

Friday 28th October
PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN NORTH
BASILDON UNITED 1 – 2 BRENTWOOD TOWN

A goal late in the second half by Andy Freeman earned the three points at the Core Refurbishments Stadium on Friday night.

This fixture was originally due to be played in February, but it was brought forward as both clubs were without a match this weekend due to their scheduled opponents’ involvement in the FA Trophy.

Brentwood had the better of the first half hour and they took a 12th minute lead when Marlon Agyakwa’s low drive from 20 yards beat home keeper James Askew. Basildon then got back into the game before half time and equalised three minutes from time when Michael Salako headed in from a corner kick.

There was a Brentwood debut for Flavio Jumo who made a good impression when he came on for the last ten minutes.

The winning goal came in the 83rd minute when Freeman converted after a fine run and cross Anthony Furlonge.

This was Brentwood’s sixth consecutive league win and sees them in fifth place in Isthmian North after Saturday’s results.
