Brentwood Town continued their pre-season campaign against Hornchurch at The Arena on Saturday, after holding out a draw to National League South outfit Chelmsford City during midweek.
For The Urchins, who are due to undertake a third season in their club’s history within the National League South, this was the opener to their pre-season preparations.
The visitors found the net inside 10 minutes as Charlie Ruff was on hand to convert the rebound upon his return to Hornchurch.
Charlie Hughes almost found an equaliser for The Blues as he received the pass, squared into the box by Blues’ talisman Daniel Ogunleye, before it was struck above the crossbar.
Joe Taylor secured a second as he capitalised from a pass across field and chipped it over into the goal.
Hughes continued on the attack and came marginally close to reducing the deficit with his attempt rolling narrowly wide of the right post.
The Blues emerged into the second half with the momentum created towards the end of the first, as Kymani Thomas burst down the left flank before his shot took a deflection.
A corner delivery from Ade Cole found Romél Aarons Royal at the far post but his header fell over the bar.
The most promising chance came in the final 20 minutes as Cole picked out Thomas in the crowded area but headed over the delivery.
The Blues continue with pre-season this Saturday as they welcome Grays Athletic to The Arena with kick-off commencing at an earlier time of 1pm. Tickets can be purchased HERE
