Brentwood Town secured their first competitive win in their Isthmian Premier campaign with a 3-2 win over St Albans City. The Blues completed an astonishing turn around during the second half, with goals from Benas Vaivada and Louie Johnson proving vital into gaining the three points last night.
The visitors took an early lead inside 10 minutes as Sam Smart headed home a ricocheted ball into the roof of the net.
The Blues came knocking and an equaliser was imminent. Louie Johnson slotted home a low shot into the bottom right corner of the goal to level the scoreline.
Minutes later The Saints were awarded a penalty. Captain Zane Banton converted from the spot to regain the advantage.
But The Blues continued on their attack. An effort from Johnson was met by a sliding block from Michael Bostwick before a long range strike from Wyan Reid was denied by Magnus Norman between the sticks.
In the closing stages of the half, The Blues were forced into an early substitution with Charlie Edwards leaving the field due to a head injury and Sam Park emerging to replace him.
After the break, Brentwood looked to galvanise on the attack. Charlee Hughes was margins away from securing an instant equaliser but his flicked shot fell just wide of the right post.
Reid won a free kick on the outskirt of the box, with Ade Cole firing a shot that forced a tip over the crossbar from Magnus.
There was calls for a Blues penalty as Kymani Thomas was brought down inside the edge of the area, but the referee waved for a corner instead.
With just over an hour on the clock, Benas Vaivada turned provider and restored level terms for The Blues with his first touch. Park squared a cross into the box from the right hand side before Vaivada was on hand with the header down the centre of goal.
The Saints made an array of substitutions and upped their intensity in attack. A powerful header from Alex Wall was denied by an incredible save from Melvin Minter inside the six yard box.
Johnson secured his second and a third for The Blues with six minutes of normal time remaining. Captain Matt Cripps picked out a pass down to Johnson, before he became through on goal and slotted his shot at the near post.
Brentwood Town are back in league action this Saturday as they travel to take on Potters Bar Town at the Lantern Community Stadium.
