Play-Off Preview

Club News | 26 Apr 2024

It’s been a long season full of hard work and challenges for Keith Rowland’s side, but it’s not over yet! Brentwood Town have booked their place in the play-offs, so here’s everything you need to know as we approach the play-offs.

So how do the play-offs work?

The semi finals are one leg, with 2nd in the league facing 5th in the league, whilst 3rd take on 4th. The side that finished highest in the season hosts the match. Both Semi Finals will take place on Tuesday 30th April.

The two winners of the semi final fixtures will then face each other in the final, scheduled for Saturday 4th May. The final will be held at the stadium of the finalist that finished highest in the league.

So who could we face?

The four sides who will be in this season’s play-offs are now confirmed, but where they will finish is far from certain. The Blues could still finish as high as third with a win at Lowestoft Town, and other results going in their favour. So let’s look at our possible opponents.

Bowers & Pitsea- Our Essex rivals currently sit 2nd in the table, and could have secured that place last weekend, had they not squandered a two goal lead against Walthamstow. This season, the sides have both won away to each other. Bowers are the most in form side heading into the play-offs with five wins from their last six.

Felixstowe & Walton United- A clash against the Suffolk side could be on the cards for the Blues. The Blues were narrowly defeated on the road this season, but earned a point when the Seasiders visited the Brentwood Arena.

Bury Town- After a somewhat slow start to the season, Coke Skuse’s men soon found form and consolidated their position as a play-off contender. They have the league’s joint top goalscorer Cemal Ramadan in their ranks. We slipped to defeat on the opening day of the season away to Bury, but earned a draw at home later in the season.

So how has the season gone for the Blues so far?

At the time of writing, heading into our final league fixture against Lowestoft Town, we currently sit 5th on 69 points, with 10 points from the last 18 available. We are proud to have the best defensive record in the league, as well as the best away record too, having 10 wins from the 13 we have played so far. Mekhi McKenzie is our top scorer with 12 goals.

Brentwood Town last made the play-offs in the 2021/22 season, experiencing heartbreak after losing on penalties to Canvey Island. The Blues will be looking to go one step further this season!
