Match Report – Brentwood Town vs Burgess Hill Town
Isthmian Premier Division
Saturday 23rd August 2025
2-1

Brentwood Town extend their unbeaten run in the league with a victory over fellow promoted outfit Burgess Hill Town.

Only goal difference separated the two sides as kick-off commenced. Chris Whelpdale looked to break down the centre of the pitch, but captain Matt Cripps was on hand to recover his attempt.

The visitors took the lead inside the 14th minute as a delivery from Martyn Box down the left flank was met by the header of Whelpdale, who nodded home his third of the season.

Max Hudson came close to reducing the deficit as he tucked inside the Hillians’ defence before his effort was struck over the crossbar.

The Blues were awarded a corner and swiftly secured an equaliser as the in-swinging delivery by Hudson found the header of Cripps at the back post.

Brentwood emerged into the second half as they ended the first with another delivery from Hudson encountering a goal line clearance.

Kymani Thomas put The Blues ahead with his striking shot from the edge of the box curling inwards of the right post.

Minutes later a double save from Roco Rees done well to deny The Blues’ attack as he punched out a shot from Charlee Hughes before the rebound struck by Louie Johnson followed suit.

A penalty was awarded to The Blues after Jesse Olukolu was brought down in the area, but Rees denied the shot of Ogunleye.

The Blues return to league action tomorrow in an exciting Bank Holiday Monday clash as they travel to take on Cray Wanderers at Flamingo Park.
