Blues lost out after a closely fought encounter at the Brentwood Arena which saw Stowmarket maintain their play-off push with a hard-earned win in an entertaining match.

In a goalless first half, the visitors had some good chances with Ollie Sotoyinbo heading over while George Craddock twice went close to scoring for Brentwood.

Chris Casement put Stowmarket ahead four minutes after the break with a deflected shot that beat goalkeeper Melvin Minter at the near post. Minter was one of three Brentwood debutants on the day, the others being young full back Ellis Sullivan, on loan from Billericay Town, and Jack Adlington, who had a previous spell with Blues in 2016, making a good impression coming off the bench in the second half.

Bryan Ifeanyi had been the Blues biggest threat in attack, and he equalised in the 66th minute, finding the bottom corner from Andy Freeman’s assist but they were only level for three minutes before Reginald Thompson-Lambe restored the Stowmarket lead.

Brentwood Town: 1 Melvin Minter, 2 James Folkes, 3 Ellis Sullivan (Daniel Ogunleye 81'), 4 Jack Dickinson (Jack Adlington 56'), 5 Matt Cripps, 6 Jack Humphrey, 7 Bryan Ifeanyi, 8 Connor Hogan, 9 George Craddock (Charlie Kendall 75'), 10 Chris Dickson, 11 Andrew Freeman.
