BRENTWOOD TOWN 1 – 1 FELIXSTOWE & WALTON UNITED

A stoppage time header by centre back Callum Leahy earned Brentwood a point in a close encounter between two strong promotion hopefuls. Leahy headed home at the far post in the 93rd minute following Chris Gregan’s long throw from the right wing.

It looked as though the Seasiders had done enough to win the match when Joshua Hitter converted at the far post from Zak Brown’s low cross from the right goal line in the 76th minute.

Brentwood’s starting eleven included debutants Gregan and Leahy in their defence and Kane Phillip in a wide midfield role, with forward David Knight coming off the bench for his debut 25 minutes from the end.

In an even first half, the away team looked the more threatening with Billy Holland and Milo Grimes having chances, but Brentwood had the best opportunity three minutes before half time when Matt Price’s persistence enabled him to set up Tom Richardson who shot over the bar with only Felixstowe keeper Callum Robinson to beat.

Price’s deft touch then put Richardson clear eight minutes into the second half, but Robinson saved well.

Hitter and Charlie Warren shot over the home crossbar from good positions before the visitors took the lead and Girling saved from Brown in the 86th minute, but the Blues late pressure was rewarded with that late goal in stoppage time.

Brentwood Town: 1 Harry Girling, 2 Josh Gray, 3 Chris Gregan, 7 Charlie Kendall, 5 Jack Humphrey, 6 Callum Leahy, 17 Matt Price, 8 Connor Hogan, 9 Tom Richardson (Andrew Freeman 75'), 10 Jai Reason (Jack Dickinson 63'), 11 Kane Phillip (David Knight 65').
