GREAT WAKERING ROVERS 3 - 5 BRENTWOOD TOWN

A Rob Harvey hat-trick was the highlight as Brentwood had to work hard to overcome Great Wakering in a highly entertaining fixture on Tuesday night.

Brentwood had led 3-1 early in the second half but the home team hit back to level the score with two goals in eight minutes. But almost immediately Harvey restored his team’s lead with an emphatic finish into the top corner for his second goal of the night. Tom Richardson then set up Harvey for his third in the 88th minute, the shot beating former Brentwood goalkeeper Tim Brown and going in off the inside of a post.

Andy Freeman had shot Brentwood ahead in the ninth minute latching on to a long pass from centre back Matt Cripps. With the visitors dominating much of the first half, Harvey made it 2-0 in the sixteenth minute, getting behind the Wakering defence, past Brown and coolly finishing.

However, the two-goal lead was short-lived with Ashley Nzala finishing well in the 21st minute following a quickly-taken free kick.

Brentwood eased into what looked a comfortable lead in the 58th minute when Jack Dickinson threaded an accurate pass through for Daniel Ogunleye who slotted home into the far corner.

But the home side hit back and made it 3-3 with goals by substitute Charlie Morris in the 65th minute and Mitchell Gilbey in the 72nd only for Harvey to make it 4-3 a minute later.

Brentwood Town: Bowles, Love, Gould, Gray, Cripps, Craddock, Ogunleye (Hickey 87), Dickinson, Richardson, Harvey, Freeman.
