Brentwood Town return to the Brentwood Centre Arena this Monday as we host Welling United in the Isthmian League Premier Division – and it’s set to be a fantastic Bank Holiday afternoon of football.
📰 Match Preview
The Blues
Brentwood lost their last match away at Burgess Hill Town, in a five goal thriller, meaning the gap with Dartford in 6th is starting to close.
The Hillians ran out 3-2 winners, Kaan Bennett scoring the opener 18 minutes in, before Louie Johnson equalised from range a few minutes after. Chris Whelpdale and Ben Pope scored either side of half time, before the Blues got one back through Ethan Kaiser with 30 minutes to play, but they were unable to find the equaliser.
Keith Rowland’s side now sit on 68 points, fifth place, still just four points off Billericay in third place. Dartford sit on 65 points, closing the gap to three points after their draw with Carshalton Athletic.
The Wings
Welling sit just outside the relegation zone on goal difference alone, and have recently enjoyed a revival, sitting third in the form table.
Their last match was a 3-1 win at home against Chichester City thanks to an Ade Azeez double, and Dean Gunner’s 47th minute strike. With 13 points in the last six matches, the Wings’ have become a much better side than their position in the table suggests.
One to watch is Azeez, who scored twice last time out, doubling his total for the season. If Welling can provide adequate service to him in this match, he will be a danger for the Blues backline.
Final Word
This is an absolutely massive match at either end of the table. Welling need a win to remain outside the relegation zone, with the Blues looking to hold onto their playoff spot.
