BRENTWOOD TOWN 2 – 0 BASILDON UNITED

Two first half goals earned Brentwood the points to move them up to fifth place in the Isthmian North table.

Blues made a bright start, Correy Davidson shooting just over the bar in the third minute before George Craddock put the Brentwood ahead in the ninth minute with a deflected shot from the edge of the area that went in off the inside of a post.

Tom Richardson made it 2-0 in the 27th minute, heading home a Correy Davidson free kick from the right wing. Craddock forced Bees’ keeper James Askew into a fine save from a free kick on the half hour.

Basildon had a chance to get back in the game four minutes into the second half when Tim Monsheju put Daniel McCullock through on goal, but Louis Chadwick was quickly off his line to smother.

Blues continued to make the better chances in the second half with Richardson hitting the post with another header in the 54th minute and then shooting wide on two more occasions before the close. Andy Freeman was denied by a save from Askew and substitute Ben Wyss came on full of energy and was a constant threat down the right flank and could have scored fifteen minutes from time but he also shot just wide of the target.
